How to tell if your business is actually ready for AI

The honest checklist we use before recommending AI to any client · and the signs you should fix something simpler first.

Algoustics Team

AI is not a strategy. It is a tool · a powerful one · that pays off when it is pointed at the right problem, with the right data, and the right guardrails. Point it at the wrong problem and you get an expensive demo that never reaches production.

Before we recommend AI to any client, we run a short readiness check. The first question is not "what can AI do?" but "what decision or task is slow, repetitive, or expensive right now?" If you cannot name one clearly, that is the first thing to fix.

The second question is about data. AI is only as good as what it can see. If your data is scattered, contradictory, or locked in ten systems, the highest-ROI first project is often not AI at all · it is getting your data into one trustworthy place.

The third question is about trust and oversight. Where does a wrong answer cost you? For low-stakes tasks, more autonomy is fine. For anything involving money, health, or compliance, you want a human in the loop and AI that can explain itself.

If you can name a painful task, point to usable data, and define where a human must stay in control, you are ready to start · with a small, measurable pilot. If you cannot yet, that is genuinely useful to know. It saves you months and a budget.
